Q11 - What parts of the course did you like best?
Response Rate:73.91%   (17 of 23)
-professor will help us to solve the case problem on class and give a clear explanation.
-i like the group assignments - this is when I applied the skills we learned in class
-everything
-Working in teams for cases and exercises really helped me learn the material more.
-Working as a team to solve homework problems or cases.
-Very useful
-The lecture is good.
-The in class examples were very helpful.
-Professor was one of the best I have had at Purdue
-I liked that we were able to work in groups and that our exams were open book. Professor Lanham was very nice.
-I liked the content. Everything we learned was super relevant to what we will have to know in the future no matter what job we have.
-I liked learning to use the excel functions for optimizations and skills like that
-I liked how clear and structured the learning materials were tied to the exams and cases/exercises.
-I enjoyed how interactive the course was.
-How the material relates to real life application
-Almost everything.
-A lot of guidance in class

Q12 - What parts of the course did you like least?
Response Rate:65.22%   (15 of 23)
-no
-i don't like what we learn - seems impractical for the real world
-This course was a JOKE! I really thought that this class was going to be one of the few classes that would be actually applicable and needed for my career but I honestly think I could have learned everything I have learned in the semester in one day. The professor didn't always go through the course materials before class and then WOULD ASK US WHY IT WASN'T WORKING! If you are supposed to teach us how to use excel you should know it pretty well. Then when we got to the exam it was really hard and we didn't feel prepared. We barely did anything in class. Honestly it was just such a waste of time I cannot believe that this is supposed to be a college 400 level class because I learned more in my high school class.
-The gap of level of materials learning between first half of the semester and second half of the semester seems to be big.
-The cases often felt like we had no idea where to begin.
-The @Risk stuff was very complicated and not enough time was allocated for it during the semester.
-Some of the class seemed like just copying and pasting formulas and not learning what they meant.
-Some concepts are confusing
-None.
-N/A
-I didn't particularly care for the @risk learning, I see how this can be useful but I took the class with intentions of learning more about excel and it's capabilities without some of the add-ons that may not be available to me when i leave Purdue
-I didn't like how vague the knowledge requirements were in preparation for the midterm. we covered a lot of material so it would have been nice to know which topics we should focus our studying on.
-I did not like how the professor sometimes did not know exactly how to work the problem.
-I did not like how I felt like I was simply memorizing the information or filling in blanks. I felt like I did not really learn enough that made me absorb the information.
-How there was a lot of weight on the exam grades

Q13 - What changes would you like to see made in future sessions of this course?
Response Rate:65.22%   (15 of 23)
-no need to change
-n/a
-learn material that I can actually use in the real world (public accounting firm)
-There needs to be more content so that we are sitting around twiddling our thumbs and we actually learn relevant uses of excel.
-None.
-N/A

-Most materials covered during first half of the semester seems very overlapping with CS 235, which is also required for my major.
-More review materials for the exams.
-More examples and more contents in ppt.
-Maybe slow down the course a little more.
-Less @Risk more just general excel stuff you will be using everyday for when we are all working
-Just changing the grading weight around but no problem otherwise.
-In future sessions I would like recorded lectures to be made available.
-I would like to see many more activities that do not include filling in pre-made excel templates. I would have rather seen us making our own from scratch. I feel this course could have been very beneficial if it was more challenging.
-Go more in depth

Q18 - We welcome your written comments below. What is something/are some things that the instructor does well, e.g., something you hope that the instructor will continue to do in the class in the future?
Faculty:Lanham, Matthew A
Response Rate:60.87%   (14 of 23)
-perfect
-Willing to answer students' questions a lot
-Very helpful, doesn't take himself too seriously teaches while still making class enjoyable. specifically took a class next semester because I liked his teaching this semester
-This professor was one of the best, if not the best professor I have had in 4 years. He really cared about you and wanted you to learn. He didnt just give you the hard homework and let you fail, he wanted to walk you through it so you could actually learn and be ready for the exams. Amazing professor, I can not say enough good things about him.
-Shows great enthusiasm for course and wants everyone to succeed.
-Mr. Lanham is extremely passionate about what he is teaching. I really liked how he invited students to sit in on his other lectures when they had guest speakers. It really sparked my interest in predictive analytics.
-It is very good.
-I appreciated your willingness to slow down to explain things, allowing us to work in groups and being understanding with deadlines
-His powerpoint and demonstration with excel during class is slow enough to follow up and understand well.
-He is extremely enthusiastic which makes class interesting. He also encourages students to ask him questions and participate.
-He is a great teacher and always willing to help me. I would love to take his another class in next semester as well.
-Explain the material clearly
-Does a good job of relating to students and is honest about what parts of the course you would use in the real world and why.
-*he provides in depth explanations and slows down when students seem to be having troubles

Q19 - Make a suggestion(s) for improving the course (a criticism alone is not helpful; tell your instructor how you would fix any problem).
Faculty:Lanham, Matthew A
Response Rate:60.87%   (14 of 23)
-teach your own content since its clear that what you're teaching is neither something you feel confident in nor do you care about it

make the course more relevant to the real world.

-no need to change.
-One recommendation I would have is to not go off the slides as much to show that he was knowledgeable of the information and not just looking at it for the first time during our class. I felt like a lot of the time he was learning it with us.
-None.
-N/A
-Move faster through the lectures.
-More guidance and review materials for the exams.
-Maybe not as much @Risk stuff. More stuff like the start of the semester. That is the stuff we will more likely be seeing when we are working once we get out of school.
-I would suggest going through the material several times before class so you aren't trouble shooting in class because if you don't know what is going on, we probably don't either. I think in class we should work on harder materials so that when we get to the exam it isn't so surprising how difficult it is.
-I would only hope that in the future more preparation materials are given leading up to the midterm. there was a lot of material that was covered so it was difficult to predict how in depth i needed to know each topic for the exam.
-I don't really have one! He was an awesome instructor, and I loved being in this course with him as my instructor.
-Have the materials more prepared for the courses.
-Harder exam in the future
-Explain the formulas more and go slower.
